Daniel Unlocked #60. The Curse of the Rabbis and a Theological Cuckoo.
After reading this you had better check your fingers and hands are OK:
“May the bones of the hands and the bones of the fingers decay and decompose, of him who turns the pages of the book of Daniel, to find out the time of Daniel 9:24-27 and may his memory rot from off the face of the earth forever.” Talmudic Law. p.978, Section 2, Line 28.
Why? Because this passage of scripture so clearly and powerfully points to Jesus as being the promised Messiah. The Rabbis don’t like it and the devil doesn’t like it either and he has done a diabolical work on it. During the counter reformation the established church had to come up with an answer for the pointing fingers of the protestant reformers.
A secret, pre-tribulation Rapture was an idea originated by the Jesuit priest, Francisco Ribera.
In 1585 A.D., Ribera was the first to introduce the idea of interrupting Daniel’s 70-week, Meesianic prophecy and inserting a “gap” between the 69th and 70th weeks. This was done to deflect apocalyptic heat from the Reformers who were fuelling reformation fervour by claiming the Pope was the Antichrist and the Catholic Church the beast of Revelation. Ribera correctly surmised that the first 69 weeks (483 years) concluded at the baptism of Jesus in 27 A.D. Then he adds a diabolical and unfounded twist; God, supposedly, had extended the 70th week into the future. Therefore, the Pope and the Catholic Church could not be so accused.
John Nelson Darby grabbed hold of Ribera’s severance idea, connected his “Rapture” to the beginning of that final week, and changed that week from a 7-year period of covenantal confirmation to one of 7 years of end time tribulation – big difference! (Notably, the Bible never mentions a future 7-year period of tribulation.) He then introduced this now fully developed, pre-tribulation Rapture view (theory) in Europe and later in America. It was popularized in American by inclusion in the notes of the Scofield Reference Bible in 1917.
Consider this: The European cuckoo is known as a “brood parasite.” The females lay their eggs in the nests of smaller bird species—like the reed warbler. In turn, these unsuspecting mothers unwittingly incubate, feed, and raise the young impostors, typically at the expense of their very own offspring. One of the most sorrowful tragedies of nature is watching a reed warbler working herself to death to satisfy the voracious hunger of a greedy cuckoo chick while her own young, already weak with starvation, are pushed out of the nest.
The devil has successfully planted a dangerous lie in modern Christian theology, and it has been unwittingly hatched, adopted and nurtured by most evangelical churches—and now this parasite is pushing out Bible truth with a bigger-than-life-deception. Sadly, this adopted falsehood is growing fat with attention while true interpretations of prophecy are starving with neglect.
Today around the globe, millions interested in Bible prophecy have their eyes fixed on Jerusalem. To be fair, it is really not all that difficult with the legitimate news value that comes from that never-ending quagmire of strife and bloodshed between Palestinians and Israelites. Christians are constantly speculating about the modern state of Israel, a rebuilt Jewish temple, and a Middle East Armageddon. It’s a theological cuckoo, laid in the nest of protestant theology.
The word ‘rapture’ is a Latin word, not found at all in the Bible and this should give a clue as to its source. There are 2500 references in the Bible to the second coming and the events leading up to it, I have read them all many times, and the word secret is never associated with the second coming – anywhere! Rather the Bible says the second coming will be personal (Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thess. 4:16), Visible (Rev.1:7; Matt. 24:30), Audible (1 Cor. 15:51-52, 1 Thess. 4:16-17), Glorious, (Matt. 25:3; Matt 24:27) and earth shaking (Rev. 6:12-17.) Simultaneously, the righteous dead will be resurrected, the righteous living will be changed, all the righteous (God’s people) will be gathered from the four corners of the earth, they will rise to meet the Lord in the air, and the unrighteous (opposers of God) will be destroyed by the brightness of His coming (1 Thess. 4:16-17; Matt.24:31; 2Thess. 1:7-8)
The most interesting paradox is that the greatest prophecy in scripture for the Messiah is suddenly turned into a prophecy about the antichrist! This is diabolical! It is tragic – it comes from the principalities and powers of darkness! There is absolutely no justification to take the last week of the 70-week prophecy (490 prophetic years) which refer to the Messiah and put it down at the end of time and have it referring to the antichrist. The doctrine of the secret rapture has its source in the counter reformation.
In Mathew 24:15, when Jesus quoted Daniel 9:27 (and also 11:31 and 12:11) regarding the abomination of desolation he first applied it to the Roman armies surrounding Jerusalem, which hapened in AD 70. As we have seen Pagan Rome morphed into Papal Rome.
The 490-year prophecy is a consecutive block of time. There is no example anywhere in scripture for a stop start prophecy. This is a delusion. It is illogical. It is diabolical. It is a theological cuckoo!

Outstanding analysis, thank you Ross.
🙂
Thank for the explanation on the rapture, always wondered where the idea came from.
Have a blessed day.
