Daniel Unlocked #80. The Actors and Powers for the Time of the End.

“And at the end time the king of the South will wage war with him, and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them, and pass through. He will also enter the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab, and the foremost of the sons of Ammon. Then he will reach out with his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and Libyans and Ethiopians will follow at his heels.” Daniel 11:40-43

From the breakup of the Roman Empire to the end of time, most, if not all, of the symbols and players are both political and religious powers. We can observe this dual role through the geopolitical and religious powers depicted in the prophecy. We can also see this through other passages of scripture, and in the record of history.

Notice some of these prophetic elements. Firstly, the King of the north is geopolitical. It is the Holy Roman Empire and other entities that emerge in the former Roman Empire and that attack Israel from the north during the crusades. Religiously, it also opposed any group that rejected the concept of allowing church traditions to overrule Bible teachings.

Secondly, the king of the south is geopolitical and is the Islamic powers that conquered the southern part of the former Roman Empire and invaded Israel from the south.

Religiously, it opposed Christianity and the divinity of Jesus.

The glorious Land and the glorious Holy Mountain are also presented geopolitically. These are Israel and Jerusalem. Spiritually, the New Testament indicates that true Christians are spiritual Israel, as, by faith, they are Abraham’s seed and therefore citizens of God’s true people.

Other countries are Part of the Islamic nations defeated by the king of the north and are mostly not mentioned by name in the prophecy, though it does specifically name Egypt, Libya, Ethiopia, (most likely the ancient region now included in southern modern Egypt and Sudan) and the western part of Jordan.

Edom, Moab, and Ammon are also presented geopolitically. These regions now make up part of western Jordan. Historically they are related to Abraham and were once part of the Davidic kingdom. It would appear from our study that they will not follow the king of the north to the end and become true believers in God by trusting in Jesus as Saviour.

The geopolitical Egypt is the nation that will be overthrown in the third and final conflict between Christianity and Islam. Religiously, Egypt and the many other countries may represent those who take up radical Islam and would prefer death to following any form of Christianity. This will bring them into opposition to the ‘Christian’ nations. E.g. Nato, USA etc.
